Panelling and feature walls are marked out on the actual wall, allowing for skirting, sockets, switches and the way the room is used, then adjusted before anything is fixed. Panels spaced off a drawing rather than the room are what produce a half panel in the corner and a socket sitting in the middle of a bead.
Alcove joinery and media walls
Fitted alcove cupboards and shelving built to the alcove rather than bought to fit it, media walls with the cabling and ventilation planned before the boards go on, and floating shelves carried on fixings that will hold what you actually put on them.
Scribed to an old house
Very few walls in a Kent house are straight and even fewer floors are level. Panelling, cornice and fitted joinery get scribed to what is there, so the finished piece follows the room instead of showing a tapering gap along the top.
Filled, caulked and painted as one piece
The difference between fitted joinery and joinery that looks fitted is the finishing. Pin holes filled, joints caulked, everything sanded and then sprayed or brushed in a finish that matches the room, so there is no visible line between the new work and the wall.

What sort of panelling can you do?
Traditional Georgian and Victorian style panelling, shaker and square panelling, slatted and battened walls, half height with a dado, and full height feature walls including geometric layouts. We will show you what suits the ceiling height and the age of the room, because the same design does not work in a Victorian terrace and a new build.
How long does a feature wall take?
A single panelled or geometric feature wall is usually two to four days including the filling, caulking and painting. Alcove joinery and media walls run longer, particularly if there is electrical work or a TV and cabling to plan around.
Can you build fitted cupboards in the alcoves?
Yes. Alcove cupboards with shelving above are one of the most requested pieces, and building them in rather than buying a unit means they fit the alcove exactly, sit properly against an uneven wall and can follow a skirting or a picture rail.
Do you design it or do I need a designer?
Most clients come with a photo of something they like and we work it up to suit the room, the ceiling height and the budget. If you already have a designer we will build to their drawing, and we will tell you early if something drawn will not work in the space as it is.
Will it match the rest of the decoration?
That is the point of doing it with the decorating rather than separately. Colours are matched to the room, the paint finish is chosen to suit the profile, and the new work is decorated at the same time as the walls so nothing looks bolted on.
